flavour 1 n. mingled
sensation of smell and taste; distinctive taste; indefinable
characteristic quality; slight admixture of a quality. 2 v.t. give
flavour to, season.
Flavour is the defining characteristic
in most food products. It’s what gives a product uniqueness,
quality and consumer appeal.
At Hawkins Watts New Zealand, providing
flavour is a large part of our business. As a food ingredients
company, we think of a flavour as a selected sensation that is
provided by both volatile and non-volatile compounds that need
to be present in the food in a stable form. Through
a special supply partnership with Symrise,
one of the world’s leading flavour producers, Hawkins Watts
New Zealand is working closely with local food manufacturers,
advising on flavours and tailoring each ingredient to a customer’s
product development or improvement.
Symrise flavours are categorised in three areas of expertise;
Beverages: flavourings
for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages
Sweet: including confectionery,
bakery, dairy products and ice creams
Savoury: including culinary flavourings
and snack food
