Amedeo Giovanni Srl Essential Oil Chemistry with passion.

Amedeo Giovanni Srl, based in the very south of Italy, process a range of citrus fruits to produce the finest quality citrus essential oils.

Founded in 1900 By Giovanni Amedeo, the business has continued through to the fourth generation of the Amedeo family. Three brothers, Vincenzo, Salvatore and Roberto manage the business, under the guidance of Papá Giovanni, and process bergamot, sicilian lemon, orange and mandarin plus specialties such as cedar and limetta.

To ensure the family’s strict quality standards are maintained, Amedeo Giovanni often purchase fruit while still on the tree. Salvatore, a trained agronomist, inspects the fruit in the valleys behind Reggio Calabria then arranges the picking and collection of the fruit. Special attention is paid to the Bergamot fruit as it is only grown in the 300 km2 region in the hills around Reggio Calabria. The citrus processing season starts in December with bergamott and tarocco, a special kind of orange, before moving to mandarin and the various types of lemon found in the Gallico region.

At the factory the oil is extracted by “Pelatrice” (scrapping and washing of the citrus skin), “Sfumatrice” (extraction from the inner fruit) and “Distillato” (distillation of the wash water to extract the oil). Both the ‘Pelatrice’ and ‘Sfumatrice’ processes use only cold water extraction, yielding the best quality oils.

Amedeo Giovanni SrlWhile the Amedeo Giovanni essential oil range meets the strict requirements of the Italian essential oil standards Stazionè Sperimentale, www.ssea.it, special attention is made to the blending and testing of the final oils. This duty falls to younger brother Roberto (Roberto il naso) to test every batch leaving the factory and ensure it meets the special Amedeo Giovanni aroma profile.
