ADM
With over 200 processing plants worldwide, Archer Daniels
Midland (ADM) is one of the largest food ingredient manufacturers
and a key supply partner of HWL.
ADM’s extensive ingredient range is processed from
four main crops: cocoa, corn, soy and wheat. Using these
base ingredients, ADM has developed several applications
and specific products, such as the Arkady bakery range or
new nutraceutical blends.
HWL has been working alongside ADM since 1990 providing
our clients with a full range of premium ingredients, from
simple requirements like dextrose monohydrate through to
highly-functional nutraceuticals such as phytosterols and
speciality fats. HWL represents all aspects of the ADM product
range with the exception of soy proteins.
ADM describes itself as a ‘vertically integrated agro-processor’.
This means working closely with farmers, often through contract
farming, helping with harvesting and quality assurance and
converting the basic agricultural crops into a range of almost
1000 ingredients. ADM then manages the transportation of
required products to partners such as HWL in New Zealand.
ADM also operates comprehensive research and development
facilities and will actively assist HWL in product conception
and product development, especially in areas such as beverages,
snacks, ready-to-eat meals and nutritional products.

with funding and education with the aim of improving the
grower’s operations and standard of living.
In 2005 ADM Cocoa launched SERAP, Socially & Environmentally
Responsible Agriculture Programme, which rewards West African cooperatives committed
to implementing sustainable environmental practices.
In 2006 ADM joined with NGO’s and other firms to launch UPCOCOA,
a group working through cooperatives to improve farmers business operations from
crop marketing and land management to product quality and productivity.
ADM have several other programs in cocoa growing regions to help achieve sustainability
for all stakeholders through socially responsible business practices. For more

The three main ingredients derived from soy are oil, protein
and lecithin. Additional specialty ingredients, such as natural
Vitamin E and phytosterols, are also extracted from soy.

ingredient. ADM was one of the first companies to develop
the Hard Identity Preserved (IP) and the GMO DNA Negative
process for soy products.
ADM is only one of four manufacturers of natural Vitamin
E worldwide, and offers a range of products including mixed
