Steps
Up Competitiveness With Alginates
Acquisition . . .
FMC Corporation has
acquired the alginates and food blends
business of International Specialty
Products (ISP), to expand and strengthen
its alginate range. It has been integrated
into the FMC BioPolymer Division.
This merging of FMC and ISP now makes FMC by far the largest alginate
supplier globally.
Alginates are hydrocolloids derived from alginic acid obtained from
seaweed (kelp). They are one of the most versatile hydrocolloids and
are used in a wide range of food, pharmaceutical and specialty applications
for: thickening, stabilising, gelling and film forming.

Food manufacturers across the board are investigating solutions for
healthy, low-fat products that still taste good, to meet the demands
of the health conscious consumer. This has created new innovation opportunities
for hydrocolloids, such as MCC and Alginate.

Lighten Up™ from Symrise . . . .
. .
Symrise is helping to make the
tastes people love, healthier. Creating full-flavoured,
irresistible foods that are low in sugar and fat.
SymLife® Sweet is
a flavouring which allows you to get a sweeter
taste without as much sugar. In certain applications SymLife® Sweet can
lower the sucrose content by up to 30% – and
still round out the full flavor profile. While
this is typically a sugar reduction aid rather
than a replacement, we have found that it also
works very well in combination with artificial
sweeteners to round out the nasty, lingering
aftertaste.
Chocolates and ice cream are just two examples of successful applications
where SymLife® Sweet improves the health benefits
of delicious popular products.

 |
SymLife® Cream is
an innovative solution which generates
a rich, creamy mouthfeel, but keeps
foods light and appealing. Not only
is it great in yogurts, ice cream or
dairy products, it also gives sauces,
soups and prepared dishes that special
something. The range includes strong ‘cream
notes’, through to ‘clean,
fat mimicking mouthfeel, without the
cream’, in both liquid, powder,
NI and natural formats.
