Sodium Citrate, Potassium Citrate Acidity regulators, buffering agents Hawkins Watts New Zealand offers a range of acidity regulators and buffering agents, including Sodium Citrate and Potassium Citrate. As well as changing pH, these ingredients can also supplement mineral levels.

Maltodextrin Bulking Agents

Used where a product with reduced sweetness and cost is required.
Maltodextrin from ADM can be added as a nutritive bulking agent, with reduced sweetness in the final product.
Polydextrose   Polydextrose from CJ is a bland bulking agent with virtually no sweetness, and reduced calorific content.
Cocoa Powder Colour, Flavour The De Zaan™ range of cocoa powders from ADM has been developed to provide the best flavour and colour without sacrificing quality. The De Zaan™ range extends from natural cocoa powder through to highly alkalised, rich cocoa powders.

Depending on the origin, degree of alkalisation and fat content, De Zaan™ Cocoa Powders provide the right flavour and colour for the right application.

Typical cocoa powders include:

De Zaan™ 250-DP-11
“A mildly alkalised cocoa with good colour and flavour”

De Zaan™ D-11-S
“A European-style cocoa with rich flavour, dark brown in appearance”

Generally, the higher the degree of alkalisation of the cocoa powder, the more dispersible it becomes. However, to enhance dispersion in water or milk, De Zaan™ lecithinated cocoa powder is also available.

Natural Colours, Artificial Colours Colour Hawkins Watts New Zealand offers a comprehensive range of natural and artificial colours for use in beverage applications.

Our suppliers, Cathay Industries, DD Williamson and Phytone, cover the colour spectrum.

We can also offer “Non speck” colours, which will readily dissolve with even colour dispersion.
Lecithin Emulsifier Hawkins Watts New Zealand offers a wide range of emulsifiers for various applications. In powder applications, the most commonly used emulsifier is lecithin, which improves wettability, especially in specialty protein and whole milk powders.

ADM offers a range of lecithins, including Yelkin Gold GMO DNA Negative, a natural lecithin especially manufactured for specific applications such as infant formula.

Resistant maltodextrin Fibre Fibresol-2 from Matsutani is a unique, low viscosity fibre which is highly soluble, yet contributes very little to taste or texture. This resistant maltodextrin will readily disperse and dissolve in water to form clear, transparent solutions, is very stable, yet contributes significantly to the analytical fibre content of products.

In addition, Fibresol-2 helps promote healthy gut bacteria and good intestinal and overall health.
Flavours Flavour Hawkins Watts New Zealand offers an extensive range of flavours from Symrise. These include a wide array of fruit flavours and “brown” flavours (vanilla, caramel, coffee, chocolate), as well as butter, cream and cheese flavours.

With application laboratories around the world, Symrise can provide market-specific samples that tailor customers products to markets around the world.
Alginate Gums, hydrocolloids, thickeners, stabilisers Hawkins Watts New Zealand can offer a full range of hydrocolloids for use in milk powders. However, the most commonly used hydrocolloids are cold water-soluble, and include:

Calcium Carbonate Minerals Calcium Carbonate from Kirsch Pharma is a fine powdered material suitable for inclusion in dairy systems.
Calcium Citrate   Calcium Citrate from Jost Chemicals is a fine powdered material, with low levels of aluminium, suited to specialty mineral applications.

Plant sterols Nutraceuticals Cardio-Aid Plant sterols from ADM are based on Soy sterols, and when absorbed by the body will help block the amount of cholesterol absorbed, ultimately lowering the blood cholesterol levels. ADM’s Cardio-Aid product allows technologists to formulate products without affecting taste or texture, while providing the necessary health benefits.
Spirulina   Hawaiian Spirulina from Cyanotech is a unique micro-algae high in protein, rich in beta carotene, calcium, iron, vitamin B-12, the rare essential fatty acid GLA, and phytonutrients.
Fructose Sweeteners Cornsweet Fructose from ADM is a crystalline sweetener with 1.2 to 1.6 times the sweetness of sucrose. ADM Cornsweet Fructose also has a low glycaemic index, and is often used in infant formulations where sweetness is required, with reduced calorific contribution.
Stevia   Stevia from Daepyung is a natural high-intensity sweetener and sugar substitute extracted from the Stevia plant with applications in low-sugar formulations.
Sweetness enhancer   SymLife® Sweet from Symrise is a flavouring which enhances sweetness, while allowing sucrose levels to be reduced by as much as 30%. SymLife® Sweet works well in combination with artificial sweeteners to help round out the aftertaste.
